JOB OVERVIEW:

Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from working-class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. The NEST is proud to be a great place to get your career started and/or to expand your career to the next level. It is an exciting time for the NEST as we are on the precipice of expanding to a total of five communities across Northern California by the end of 2023. Digital NEST has centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy,  Modesto, and soon to launch in Stockton. 

Digital NEST is seeking a passionate and organized Program Coordinator to support the bizzNEST internship program,  which provides interns with a one-year paid internship to help them launch their careers. As the in-house digital agency of Digital NEST, bizzNEST offers interns the opportunity to work on real-life projects with external and internal clients. Interns gain essential technical and professional skills, and also have access to mentorship, career support, and career coaching. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for shepherding youth through the internship program - from program recruitment and the application process, through the internship experience, and helping them transition to their next opportunity.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Internship Experience (60%)

  • Provide support and advising to cohorts of 50-150 interns throughout their one-year internship to promote successful completion of the internship; including providing logistical support and resources, advising and referring interns to Digital NEST services, and collaborating with department leads and Career Services to troubleshoot challenges 
  • Coordinate the Internship onboarding process for new interns in collaboration with HR and bizzNEST Program Leadership, including scheduling, creating onboarding materials, and coordinating onboarding events
  • In collaboration with department leads, monitor interns throughout their internship experience to ensure they are on track with their professional development, internship goals and responsibilities, and career materials (resumes and portfolios)
  • Collaborate with department leads and Career Services to support intern offboarding process and transition to their next opportunity (job, internship, college/university)
  • Maintain and update internship program information as necessary 
  • Collaborate with Director of Career Services and bizzNEST Leadership to evaluate individual and overall program performance on a regular and ongoing basis; use collected data and information to make needed improvements
  • Travel to meet with interns at the five Digital NEST centers in the Monterey Bay and San Joaquin Valley region

Program Recruitment and Application Process (30%)

  • Collaborate with Pathways Program Managers to proactively identify internal candidates for bizzNEST and shepherd youth through the application process
  • Collaborate with HR, Department leads, and external partners (schools, colleges, nonprofits, etc.) to recruit bizzNEST applicants, including traveling to tabling and recruitment events
  • Execute the application process for all candidates in collaboration with bizzNEST leadership to ensure clear and streamlined process
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments including HR, Career Services, Finance, Programs, etc. 

Mentorship Program (10%)

  • Support execution of the Mentorship Program for bizzNEST interns, under guidance of the Employer Engagement Manager
  • Collaborate with Employer Engagement Manager and Director of Career Services to match interns with professional mentors
  • Track intern progress throughout the Mentorship Program and provide proactive support to troubleshoot challenges with participation and completion of the program
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in a nonprofit and/or corporate setting, with a focus on program coordination and/or event planning
  • At least 3 years experience working in youth programming in program coordination, advising, mentorship, or similar fields
  • Must have a driver’s license and a mode of transportation to travel to work locations ion a regular basis
  • Independent self-starter with strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, presentation and customer service skills; political acumen and tact in communicating with multiple stakeholders
  • Experienced with data management and CRM databases
  • Strong cross-functional collaborative skills; ability to interact with and relate well to others, and embodies a collaborative spirit
  • Must be flexible; have a positive, can-do attitude; and have a strong desire to work in an industry that focuses on helping others
  • Advanced proficiency with Google Workplace collaboration tools
  • Basic proficiency with Powerpoint, Excel, WordPress, and graphic design
  • Basic proficiency with a task management system, like Asana, preferred

  • Passion for the mission of Digital NEST and belief in upholding organization’s core values.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to issues of culture/ethnicity/race, gender, sexual identity, class/SES and immigration status. 
  • Ability to be an ally to people of color, women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, questioning and intersex individuals and their allies (LGBTQIA). 
  • Candidates must have a valid CA driver's license and be able to travel and work evenings or weekends occasionally, or as needed.
