Location(s): Interns are on-site positions at either the Watsonville or Salinas Center. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Age requirements: Internship positions are reserved for young adults ages 18 - 24 years of age.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from working class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. Digital NEST has five centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy, Modesto, and soon to launch in Stockton. 

 

JOB OVERVIEW:
bizzNEST is the creative agency of Digital NEST. bizzNEST offers a paid, 1-year internship program that provides real world professional training. Through this program, interns hone and develop their technical and professional skills, gain real professional experience by working with clients, build professional level portfolios and resumes, and become competitively qualified for entry-level, career-focused employment.

 

bizzNEST is looking for a motivated Intern who can assist with our video production projects, and  is a quick learner and has a passion for this field. Interns will work under staff supervision to take projects from initial client intake through ideation, production, post-production and delivery, gaining experience in advanced video production techniques. They will support planning, execution, and editing to create visually appealing video content. They will be creating video content for external clients as well as working within the organization. They will also collaborate across functional teams for projects, as needed, including Design and Web Development.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pre-Production (20%)

  • Conduct research on industry trends, visual styles, and storytelling techniques to inform creative decisions.
  • Assist the production team in developing comprehensive pre-production materials, including:
    • Storyboards and visual references
    • A/V scripts and shot lists
    • Floor plans and set layouts
    • Production schedules and call sheets
    • Pitch decks and creative presentations
  • Ensure all pre-production materials align with the client’s brand and style guidelines.
 

Production (20%)

  • Support on-location and in-studio productions, assisting with setup, operation, and breakdown of equipment.
  • Operate and assist with production equipment as needed, including:
    • Cameras: Framing, focus, exposure settings, and basic troubleshooting.
    • Grip & Lighting: Setting up lights, adjusting modifiers, and maintaining proper exposure.
    • Audio: Setting up microphones, monitoring sound levels, and troubleshooting interference.
  • Follow best practices for production safety and efficiency while working alongside the crew.
 

Post-Production (30%)

  • Assist in the post-production workflow by importing, organizing, and logging footage into editing software.
  • Create string outs and/or assembly edits to help shape the narrative structure of projects.
  • Edit rough cuts, incorporating interviews, B-roll, graphics, audio, and other elements.
  • Apply basic color correction, audio leveling, and simple motion graphics as needed.
  • Archive and organize project media according to the organization’s standardized folder structure.
 

Other (30%)

  • Interact and communicate with clients (with support).
  • Attend meetings and participate in critiques.
  • Attend client meetings.
  • Collaborate with staff members from other departments, as necessary.
  • Participate in applicable certification programs and courses. 
  • Log work and progress on project management (PM) software such as Asana and customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Salesforce, if necessary.
  • Manage time effectively and meet project deadlines.
  • Communicate regularly and across-teams through email, chat and in-person.
  • Participate in the Mentorship Program and professional development activities. 
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school graduate or currently majoring in the fields of Cinematic Arts, Film and Media Arts, or related fields. Self-taught individuals are welcome if they can demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency in video production.
 

Technical Skills / Experience:

  • Experience working with DSLR/Cinema cameras and production equipment (lighting, audio, support systems.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite / DaVinci.
  • Background in social media short form content production is a plus.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for the mission of Digital NEST and belief in upholding organization’s core values.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to issues of culture/ethnicity/race, gender, sexual identity, class/SES and immigration status.

  • Ability to meet the minimum amount of hours required.
  • Maintain dexterity and coordination, sufficient to perform essential functions.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time performing desk-based computer tasks.
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 35 pounds as needed.
  • Maintain dexterity and coordination, sufficient to perform essential functions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours a day for production work.
  • To participate in some production opportunities the intern will be responsible for their own transportation.
  • In-person participation at either Watsonville or Salinas Digital NEST sites.
  • Available nights and weekends for production work, on occasion.
