Location(s): Interns are on-site positions at either the Watsonville or Salinas Center. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Age requirements: Internship positions are reserved for young adults ages 18 - 24 years of age.

ORGANIZATION  OVERVIEW:

Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from working class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. Digital NEST has five centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy, Modesto, and Stockton. 

 

JOB OVERVIEW:

bizzNEST is the digital media agency of Digital NEST. bizzNEST offers a paid,  1-year internship program that provides real world professional training. Through this program, interns hone and develop their technical and professional skills, gain real professional experience by working with clients, build professional level portfolios and resumes, and become competitively qualified for entry-level, career-focused employment.

 

bizzNEST is looking for a motivated Senior Intern who can assist with our video production projects, and  is a quick learner and has a passion for this field. The Senior Intern will work closely under the supervision of the Video Production Lead to task supervise a small team of general interns on client projects. Interns will work under staff supervision to take projects from initial client intake through ideation, production, post-production and delivery, gaining experience in advanced video production techniques.  They will play a pivotal role in planning, execution, and editing to create visually appealing video content, including leading project segments. They will be creating video content for external clients as well as working within the organization. They will also collaborate across functional teams for projects, as needed, including Design and Web Development.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Production (25%)

  • Collaborate with the Video Production Lead and creative team to develop concepts, scripts, and shot lists that align with client objectives.
  • Participate in client meetings to provide creative input and ensure brand consistency across projects.
  • Organize and manage pre-production assets, including storyboards, pitch decks, A/V scripts, and floor plans.
  • Coordinate production logistics such as scheduling, securing locations, and obtaining necessary permits.
  • Ensure all pre-production documents are reviewed and approved before moving into production.
 

Production (25%)

  • Take on leadership roles in the studio and on-location shoots, overseeing production crew and workflows.
  • Operate and assist with professional video equipment, including cameras, lighting, audio, and grip gear.
  • Manage and maintain production equipment, ensuring proper setup, storage, and functionality.
  • Create and enforce equipment check-out/check-in protocols to track inventory and minimize loss or damage.
  • Direct talent and crew on set, ensuring smooth execution of the production plan.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues on set and provide creative solutions to maintain production quality.
 

Post-Production (30%)

  • Serve as the Post-Production Lead on assigned projects, managing timelines and deliverables.
  • Supervise the edits of high-quality video content, including rough cuts, fine cuts, and final versions with color grading, audio mixing, and motion graphics.
  • Oversee the workflow of assistant editors and interns, delegating tasks efficiently.
  • Implement brand and style guidelines in all edits to maintain visual consistency.
  • Organize and archive media assets following best practices in asset management.
  • Provide post-production training and guidance to junior team members on editing techniques, software, and workflow efficiency.
 

Other (20%):

  • Task and guide a team of general interns.
  • Log work and progress on project management (PM) software such as Asana and customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Salesforce, if necessary.
  • Communicate across-teams through email, chat and in-person.
  • Attend meetings and participate in critiques.
  • Collaborate with staff members from other departments, as necessary.
  • Participate in applicable certification programs, workshops, and courses for continued skill development. 
  • Participate in the Mentorship Program. 
  • Seek and participate in professional development activities and share with the intern cohort.
  • Support the onboarding process for new interns during seasonal transitions.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • College seniors or recent graduates majoring in Cinematic Arts, Film and Media Arts, or related fields. Self-taught individuals are welcome if they can demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency in video production.
 

Technical Skills: 

  • Intermediate experience working with DSLR/Cinema cameras and production equipment (lighting, audio, support systems.)
  • Intermediate experience working with Adobe Creative Suite / DaVinci.
  • Background in social media short form content production is a plus.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for the mission of Digital NEST and belief in upholding organization’s core values.

  • To participate in some production opportunities the intern will be responsible for their own transportation.
  • In-person participation at one of the Digital NEST sites.
  • Available nights and weekends for production work, on occasion.
